Red Beans and Rice is a weekly traditional dish in New Orleans. You can prepare the same great tasting dish quickly and easily with this package of New Orleans Red Beans Mix, 1 lb. of dried red kidney beans, and 1 lb. ham or smoked sausage (optional).
Red Beans Orleans Mix Sort and rinse beans. In a large pot (min, 5-qt.) add 3½ quarts water. Red Beans Orleans Mix, beans and ham or smoked sausage (optional). Cover and bring to a boil. Reduce heat to medium, uncover and simmer for 2½ to 3 hours, stirring often or until beans are tender. For creamier beans add ¼ butter or margarine when done. Serve over steamed rice. Serves 4 Hint: This seasoning pack can be used with just about any type of beans with good tasting results.
